THE DIRECTOR - Fulvio Rampi

Fulvio RampiBorn in Cremona in 1959.
Resident organist at the church of S. Abbondio in Cremona and since 1998 Chapel Master of the Cathedral of Cremona. Graduated in the organ and organ music composition from the Conservatorium of Brescia, obtained teaching diploma and doctorate in Sacred Music and Gregorian chant from the Papal Institute of Sacred Music in Milan under the guidance of Luigi Agustoni.

Succeeded Agustoni himself to the professorship in Gregorian chant at the same Papal Institute. His activities include numerous publications on specialist magazines and he is the author, together with M. Lattanzi, of a Manual of Gregorian chant (1991, reprinted 1998). He is the editor of the specialist magazine Note Gregoriane (ed.Turris), which began publication in 1993. He has been responsible for the transcription and publication in two volumes of sacred polyphonic compositions of the renaissance period. He works as a compositor on the liturgical music magazine, Armonia di Voci ed.LDC).

He is invited to hold conferences and courses in Gregorian chant in Italy and abroad. He held the position of president of the Italian division of the International Association for Studies of Gregorian chant from 1991 to 1995 and until 1995 he was a teacher on international courses in Gregorian chant organised in Cremona by the same association. His concert activities involve being an organ soloist and being the director of polyphonic choirs.

In 1986 he founded the group Cantori Gregoriani, a professional ensemble of male voices, of which he is the permanent director. With this group he has made a large number of recordings for important Italian and foreign record labels.

He holds the Chair in Pre-Polyphony at the "G. Verdi" Music Conservatorium in Turin.
